Do you get excited about lending your energy and positivity to shaping the community you live in?  If you answered “Yes!” volunteer opportunities at the Elegba Folklore Society are for you.  If you like the programs we present, you can help make them happen!  Ahead of time, at a festival, backstage or in our cultural center, we need you to assist us in delivering the best possible cultural experiences to people just like you.

ELEGBA FOLKLORE SOCIETY VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Shifts are about 3 hours. Prior day training required.

1. FESTIVAL PRODUCTION TEAMS

(Each team will be led by a production staffer.)

Vendor Coordination Assistants

Assists vendor coordinator with checking in, placing and surveying participating vendors. Serves as a compliance liaison between vendors, Vendor Coordinator and Site Manager.

Site Management Assistants

Helps to set and strike event sites including marking spaces according to site map, tables, chairs, banners, signs, tents, assisting with electrical connections — front and back of house’ serves as facilitation liaison between Site Manager and Technical Director.

Technical Assistants

Helps to load equipment in and out and assists with set up.

Production Assistants

Helps with onsite logistics and stage management. Serves as liaison between stage manager and performers.

Arts Education Assistants

Helps Art Educator with craft making educational projects for children.

Sales & PR Assistants

Helps retail manager with sales of cultural items, gives information about organization and its programs. Requires knowledgeability of products and services. Requires assertiveness.

Crowd Activators

Coordinates and executes water sales and collects donations onsite through one-on-one interactions with attendees. Responsible for money and product management and accountability.

Box Office/VIP Assistants

Helps with ticket sales, Will Call and IDs, when required. For VIP areas, also helps with service — food, beverage and pampering.

Security Assistants

Assists team leader with attendee traffic flow and with parking. Patrols restricted areas with an eye for safety. Maintains assigned posts.

Satisfaction Survey Interviewers

Conducts satisfaction surveys using a pre-designed questionnaire. Training required.

2. CULTURAL CENTER STAFFING

Archives Assistant

These volunteers will file and store archival materials such as newspaper clips, other printed materials and documents and video documents.

Host/Docent

Particularly during the First Fridays ArtWalk and with tour groups, greeters will welcome visitors, give information about the art exhibited and, assertively, about sales items. This is similar to sales and PR above and can be the same people.

Marketing/PR Assistant

Performs communications follow-up with and data recording of the Society’s contacts and attendees. Serves as a liaison between the Society and personal/professional network.

In a perfect world, the volunteers who join us will be trained to perform their jobs in an ongoing manner to build expertise, comfortability and continuity.
