The theme of this year’s Juneteenth celebration is “Take Me to the Water” and we have been blessed with a piece by brother Abiodun Oyewole of The Last Poets, who will be featured in our June 14th, Symposium and Concert, regarding the this years theme…
TAKE ME TO THE WATERS
WE CAME HERE BY WAY OF THE WATER
SWIMMING IN TEARS OF SORROW
FOR BEING FORCED TO LEAVE OUR HOMELAND
IT WAS OUR TEARS AND BLOOD
THAT MADE THE WATER SALTY
AND IT IS THERE IN THE WATER
WHERE YOU’LL FIND THE SOUL OF MADE
THE WATERS ARE EMOTIONAL
SENSUAL AND REFRESHING
YEMONJA AND OSHUN ARE THE WATERS OF LIFE
FLOWING THROUGH US IN OUR BLOOD
AND ALL AROUND US
THEY ARE THERE TO COMFORT
CHASTISE AND BLESS OUR BEING ON EARTH
WE BECOME THE RIVERS
LAKES AND STREAMS AND WATERFALLS
TO NURTURE THE LAND AND QUENCH THE THIRST
OF UR SPIRITS
