Ęlęgba Folklore Society and Culture4MyKids have teamed up with their collective sights on one of the Amazing Raise Prizes — the Nonprofit Win-Win Challenge where the award is $3,000 to share. The organizations are working together to raise the profiles of their organizations in an Awareness & Empowerment Campaign during the Amazing Raise.
On September 17, 2014 at 7pm the organizations, where each offers engagement in African dance and music among their ongoing services, will hold an African dance fitness class known as Timbuk Fitness at Elegba Folklore Society’s Cultural Center, 101 East Broad Street in the RVA Arts District at the corner of 1st & Broad. This energizing event is free and open to the public.
Timbuk Fitness is America’s hottest African dance fitness program. This powerful African dance workout celebrates the ancestral heritage and rich history of the people of Africa. The Timbuk™ workout is unique because each movement targets and engages all of the muscles through music that is powerful and strong. Timbuk™ is best done in a group environment and among a community that is social and fun! In Timbuk, participants work out to celebrate life, to feel good and have fun.
A thematic of this Amazing Raise partnership is I’m Passionate About Life, and this event is designed to stir that passion.
Culture4MyKids and Ęlęgba Folklore Society are also both inspired by the work and wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who said,
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable….
Every step toward the goal…requires…the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
The groups each have missions that focus on human progress through exposure and engagement through the arts and cultural education. They hope to turn passion into donations and to seize the moment to communicate strategic messages about their programs and impact.
