Elegba Folklore Society Presents Performing Arts Workshops

Join Elegba Folklore Society’s African dancers and drummers in two special workshops,
Feel the Beat, on Sunday, February 12, in the Dominion Arts Center, 600 E. Grace Street, downtown in Richmond, Virginia. Tickets are $5 for each session.

Feel the Beat – West African Drum begins at 2p. Participants will put their hands on the skin and immerse themselves in the body-mind-spirit of the experience. Enjoy drumming, learn percussion technique and cultural traditions, feel good inside and out! The focus is the djembe orchestra of the Manding.

Feel the Beat – West African Dance begins at 3:15p. Participants will throw off their shoes and socks and immerse themselves inside the rhythm of the drum. Enjoy dancing, while learning dance technique and cultural traditions. The workshop will be led by a dancer/folklorist and drummers. Students should wear loose-filng clothing, and be prepared to dance in bare feet.
