Juneteenth 2023, A Freedom Celebration: Torch Lit Night Walk Along the Trail of Enslaved Africans

Elegba Folklore Society will present the Torch Lit Night Walk Along the Trail of Enslaved Africans as a part of and pilgrimage introduction to Juneteenth, 2023, A Freedom Celebration on Saturday, June 10 beginning at the Manchester Dock, 1308 Brander Street, at 7:00p.  Interpreters will interweave the narratives of enslaved Africans with the historical record, characterizations of the day and music.  This program is free and open to the public.

Juneteenth, A Freedom Celebration is Virginia’s flagship Juneteenth holiday commemoration, and it attracts visitors from around the state and beyond.  It reflects  particular and poignant stories of enslavement and emancipation that shaped a nation, while highlighting the resolve and resilience of Africa’s children in America.  In its 27th year, attendees can engage in spirit-filled performances, sacred rituals, healing cyphers, the Get Woke Youth Summit, the Freedom Market, historical perspectives and ancestral homage.

Free to the public.  Donations accepted.
